A family name does not describe every generation

Equipment histories often reuse recognizable names across updates. A researcher should retain the exact wording of the product designation and the year of the supporting document. Later control systems, configurations, or marketing descriptions should not be silently added to an earlier entry.

For a used-machine inquiry, make a separate file for the unit being considered. Include identifying information, available documentation, and the supplier's description of the installed configuration. Record uncertainty explicitly when a listing lacks details.

Compare work at the cell boundary

For purchasing discussions, define where the job enters the proposed process and where it is ready for the next operation. Preparation, identification, and transfer need to be included in the comparison. A statement about one cutting operation is not a complete account of the shop's production flow.
