Look outside the cutting sequence

Record when a job becomes ready, where it waits, how it reaches the table, and where its parts go afterward. Ask the vendor to distinguish work performed during a demonstration from preparation completed before you arrived. Keep program preparation, loading, cutting, and unloading as separate observations.

If comparing configurations, use the same part set and the same required output. Record every change to the material, nesting assumptions, or finishing required afterward. An apparent advantage can be difficult to interpret when the two demonstrations finish different amounts of work.

Ask about the files and the fallback

Identify the supplied software, the machine-specific output, and the person who owns approved production files. Ask the vendor how a revised file is kept from being confused with the previous version. Also ask which support records should be retained if the cell cannot complete a planned job.

The comparison should end with observed facts and clearly labeled supplier claims. A manufacturer's statement about maintenance, yield, or labor savings is not a measurement from your own operation. Installation, access, and operating arrangements require the supplier's exact documentation and review.
