TISE 2022: stone education moved closer to the machinery

TISE's March 2022 report describes a Las Vegas show organized around distinct flooring, stone and tile areas. For countertop shops, the notable development was the connection between equipment sourcing and practical education within StonExpo/Marmomac.

The organizer reported expanded stone pavilions supported by the Natural Stone Institute, a new Stone Theatre and a dedicated stone education track. It also recorded SFA demonstrations in The Cage and the Stone Equipment and Supply Alliance's selection of StonExpo as its annual machinery event. Those activities gave the stone side of TISE an identity beyond a collection of booths.

What the format offered a fabrication shop

Seeing a demonstration and then finding the relevant supplier can make a technical question easier to pursue. A production lead may need to understand the tooling, while an owner wants to discuss training and support. An event that places those conversations near one another gives both people a useful starting point.

For an internal reading file, separate the equipment notes from the training notes. Record the model discussed, the problem it addresses and the person responsible for following up. Keep historical supplier contacts as historical records; confirm current support channels before relying on them.

The lasting interest of this edition is the emphasis on learning alongside machinery. That remains a sensible way to plan a shop's next exhibition visit, whatever size its equipment budget.
