LT-2D3D, Proliner and Flexijet: compare the complete templating handoff
Evaluate field capture and the office handoff together. Use the same supervised practice job, preserve the exact equipment and software versions, and inspect the files the programmer actually receives.

Define a successful visit
A completed measurement is one part of a useful template visit. The office also needs the right job identity, revision, fixture information, supporting photos and a clear account of unresolved decisions. Define those deliverables before looking at devices so each demonstration answers the same operational question.
Choose an approved practice layout with input from an experienced templator and programmer. Include the kinds of features the shop routinely encounters, without turning the exercise into an unsupported technical challenge. Have qualified personnel operate equipment according to the manufacturer’s guidance.
Understand the capture approach
LPI describes LT-2D3D as a laser templator. Prodim’s Proliner uses a measuring wire and pen. Flexijet describes a laser system that creates CAD geometry with FlexiCAD and supports field documentation. These distinctions explain what to observe during a demonstration; they do not establish which approach will perform best for your jobs.
Ask each supplier to identify the model, software, accessories and training included. Do not compare an older device with a current package without recording that distinction. Published specifications and demonstration observations should remain separate in the evaluation record.
Inspect the receiving side
| Handoff item | Acceptance question |
|---|---|
| Geometry | Can the qualified reviewer interpret the intended surfaces and features? |
| File format | Does the actual receiving application open the export correctly? |
| Revision | Can the office identify the version approved for further work? |
| Context | Are photos and notes associated with the correct job? |
| Exceptions | Are incomplete decisions visible before release? |
Have the office use its own receiving application and documented import process. A file opening successfully is a useful first observation, but the reviewer still needs to inspect how dimensions, layers and intended features are represented. Record any cleanup and who performs it.
Observe learning and recovery
Ask how a new employee is trained and assessed before working independently. Have the supplier explain support access, replacement arrangements and software updates. Discuss how the shop preserves work when a device or connection becomes unavailable. Keep these answers with the equipment proposal.
An experienced demonstrator can make a task look easy. Ask the intended users to complete an appropriately supervised practice exercise after instruction. Record the assistance required and use it to estimate training effort. Avoid presenting a single session as a broad accuracy or productivity benchmark.
Decide using the full cost of the visit
Compare travel preparation, site capture, documentation, office cleanup and follow-up visits as distinct work. A faster capture process may still leave more interpretation for the programmer. Conversely, additional field documentation may save a return visit. Establish the shop’s baseline and test those hypotheses with comparable practice work.
Keep the final selection tied to observable deliverables and the quoted package. The best outcome is a dependable field-to-office process that staff can repeat, explain and support when someone is absent.
